Wrap Up Notes Dec 18, 2021

Dear parents and guardians,

I hope this note finds you and your families safe and sound.

Your generosity and kindness are immense. My students and I are very fortunate to have you! Our Winter Holiday Lunch party was a memorable one. The children truly enjoyed everything: Pizza and utensils from Adair, oranges from Hudson, chips from Duncan, Christmas cookies from David, ginger bread cookies from Evelyn, brownies and cupcakes from Marisol, grapes & Christmas wind-up toys from Dante, onion rings & Takis from Hernan, carrots from Lily, ornament crafts from Royal, candies, estimating jars and origami paper from Scarlett. I'm including some pictures here from yesterday's celebration. I understand a couple of students may have left your Christmas present in class - I'll save it for you.

Thank you Mrs. Villanueva and Mrs. Mack for helping our class with serving food and facilitating the fun games. You saved my day! Thank you Mrs. Mena for picking up the pizzas for us so we had warm pizza on time.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Mrs. Waters

Week 16

Dear families,

We have one more week to go before our Winter Holiday.  Our Superstar Showcase will be on Wednesday Dec. 15th between (10:15 - 11:00am). Please check the Zoom invitation on Living Tree soon.

This week's learning focus areas are as follows:

  1. Extend, review, assess and reteaching unit 7 Number  Pairs Relationships
  2. Introduce unit 8 Time academic vocabulary
  3. Reading an analog clock: hour, half hour, and quarter hour, to nearest Five minutes and minute
  4. Students will determine solutions to problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals
  5. In science students will be learning about natural resources and energy conservation.
On Friday, students may wear PJs and we will have a Winter Holiday Lunch Party between 11:00am - 1:00 pm.  We will have pizza, drinks, fruits, sweets  and snacks. And there will be a holiday movie, craft and games that day too. Each student will receive a present from Santa since they worked so hard this semester and have shown great progress. I am very proud of each of you.  I will be sure to take some pictures of the event to share with you later.

Please don't worry too much if you haven't completed your project yet. Please keep in mind what counts the most is that you have participated and done as well as you can.  Keep trying and good luck!

Enjoy the last school week of 2021!

With Love,

Mrs. Waters

Week 15 Announcements

Dear families,

This week we will move to Unit 7 in math. In this unit students will learn the following skills:

  1. Represent real-world relationships using number pairs in a table and verbal descriptions to solve problems in real-world contexts.
  2. Identify and describe numerical patterns in a table in order to extend the numerical relationships represented.
  3. Represent real-world relationships using verbal descriptions, as well as interpret verbal descriptions of real-world relationships to represent them symbolically
  4. Explore numerical relationships with whole numbers involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division
  5. Understand that a numerical pattern represents a sequence of numbers that follow a rule
  6. In Science students will explore the characteristics of natural resources that make them useful in products and materials such as clothing and furniture and how resources may be conserved.
We will also have math district learning assessment on Thursday.

Have a great Week!

Week 14 Announcements

This week students will solve one-step multiplication and division problems using strategies based on objects, pictorial models, arrays, area models, equal groups, properties of operations, and recall of facts. Students will also represent and solve one-step multiplication and division problems using arrays, strip diagrams, and equations. Students will also learn to describe a multiplication expression as a comparison.  Students will determine the unknown number in a multiplication or division equation relating three whole numbers when the unknown is either a missing factor or product.

We will also continue working on the Superstar Showcase Project(s). I will provide the feedback on your finished portion of your projects.  Please have them ready by this Thursday. If you wish to combine two projects into one and need some support, be sure to share your ideas with me in class.

I sent a note on LivingTree on the Friday Nov.19th.  Below is an image of the post just in case you guys haven't seen it.

I've also attached some images of sample problem solving strategies here for your reference.

Week 11 Announcements

Dear Families,

We had a good time for the Book Character Day on Friday. As a part of our Sinclair traditions, we dressed up for our characters and had a parade. We shared some sweets thanks to Dante, Lily and Raegan  (Halloween tattoos, M&Ms and Candies Treats).

This coming week in math class we will be working on 2 digit multiply by 1 digit, then focusing on representing and solving one and two step problems involving addition and subtraction. In science we will be comparing day to day weather changes in different locations. Students will be able to learn how to conduct their own weather project.

Be safe at Trick or Treat!

Week 10 Announcements

Dear families,

Last week we studied the concept of multiplication and its various representations.  This included repeated addition, equal groups, skip counting, skip jumping on a number line, arrays, and area models. This week we will be diving in to find the quotient and study how to use fact families to find an unknown number.

Week 10 focus:

  1. SEL - Bully Free
  2. Use a variety of strategies  to develop fluency and automaticity with multiplication and division facts
  3. Find the fact families
  4. Determine the unknown number in a multiplication or division equation relating three whole numbers when the unknown is either a missing fact or product.
  5. Science - Explore different forms of energy, including light, sound and heat in everyday life
  6. Thursday - WITs, writers in school
  7. Friday-- Character Day
