Week 21 Announcements

Dear families,

Last week we started the mid year Renaissance 360 Universal Screener. Some students received their report last Friday.  The remainder of my students will take the test this coming week. Please anticipate a report this week.  I'm very proud of my students' achievements.

Tuesday Feb 1st is the Lunar New Year Day. We will hold a small celebration with some crafts and treats. Parents, please wrap all treats individually if you plan to drop off some this Tuesday. We'll also be making an ancient calculator, or abacus which will be introduced Monday. Please send a clean shoe box or shoe box lid with your child if you have one Tuesday. 

This week's focus will be:  

  1. Review Math CFA #7
  2. Introduce financial math literacy
  3. Make an abacus
  4. Linear measurement activity
  5. Review properties of polygons
  6. Find the perimeters of various polygons such as triangles, rectangles, squares, pentagons and hexagons
  7. In science we will be investigate rapid land changes on the earth's surface  - including volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and landslides.

Week 20 Announcements


Dear families,

This week we will be learning/reviewing the following skills, and we'll have CFA #7 on Thursday or Friday.

  1. Represent equivalent fractions by using a variety of objects and pictorial models, and number lines.
  2. Compare fractions with the same denominator by using symbols, words, objects, pictorial models, and number lines.
  3. Compare fractions with the same numerator by using symbols, words, objects, pictorial models, and number lines.
  4. Solve multistep word problems involving partitioning an object or a set of objects among two or more recipients
  5. In science: exploring decomposition of plants and how they become part of soil, soil formation and and types of soil.
  6. CFA #7 will be taken this week

Week 18 Announcements

Dear families,

I hope everyone is staying healthy and sound.

This week we will be learning the following skills:

  1. Representing fraction of halves, fourths, and eights on number lines, area models and strip diagrams
  2. Determining the corresponding fractions using pictorial models including strip diagrams , area models and number lines 
  3. Explaining the unit fraction using area models, strip diagrams and number lines
  4. Solving problems involving partitioning an object or a set of objects among two or more recipients
  5. In science: exploring endangered species

Week 17, Welcome Back

Dear families,

Happy New Year! Are you ready for our Spring semester? I hope you all had a joyful and safe holiday break. I stayed home the entire holiday just to be careful. Hopefully 100% of us are ready to be back in class!

This coming week we will be focusing on the time unit in math and natural resources unit in Science. 

  1. Use the number line to locate and label times
  2. Relate time shown on a digital clock to an analog clock and vice versa
  3. Find the elapsed time by using pictorial models or number lines
  4. Find the ending time by using pictorial models or number lines
  5. Find the starting time by using pictorial models or number lines
  6. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes
  7. Spiral up on multistep problem solving 
  8. Explore the characteristics of natural resources and how resources may be conserved
  9. Introduce the next Superstar Showcase Project
