A Note to 2nd Grade Teachers

Over the years, a few 2^nd grade teachers have asked what a 3^rd grade teacher expects from the incoming 2^nd graders. Here I have put together a few things you might want to consider.

Each of your students is expected to

   
·       Identify and read all 2^nd Grade HFW
·       Decode words with short, long, or variant vowels, trigraphs, and blends
·       Decode words with silent letters
·       Decode multi-syllable words
·       Alphabetize a series of words
·       Be able to use a dictionary or glossary to find words
·       Produce a series of rhyming words
·       Listen actively, ask relevant questions to clarify information
·       Retell and paraphrase text in ways that maintain meaning and logical order
·       Be able to add and subtract smaller than 1,000
·       Recall basic facts to add and subtract within 20 automatically
·       Use place value to compare and order whole numbers up to 1,200 using             comparative language, number and symbols (>, <, or =)
·       Determine odd and even numbers up to 40
·       Partition objects into equal parts and name the parts using words
·       Read and write time to the nearest one-minute increment using analog and digital clocks

Amelia  swam, rode her bike, and ran in a race. She spent 17 minutes swimming, 23 minutes riding her bike, 30 minutes running. What was the total amount of time Amelia spent swimming, riding her bike, and running in this race?

At the school breakfast, 25 plates of pancakes and 40 plates of waffles were served. Each plate had either 2 pancakes or 2 waffles. How many waffles and pancakes were served?

Mrs. Waters needs to bake 64 blueberry muffins for a party. Her recipe makes 8 muffins. Mrs. Waters wrote an equation to find how many batches of muffins she needs to bake. Write Mrs. Waters' equation in words.

Welcome to 3rd Grade

Dear incredible students and families,

     Welcome to Mrs. Waters' Magic Garden! I'm very excited to step into this amazing learning journey with you.

     3rd Grade can be challenging and a lot of fun too. We shall explore, investigate,  collaborate and communicate a ton during our learning and social activities. We shall take every learning opportunity seriously yet joyfully. We'll learn the best ways to help ourselves grow strong and confident.

     Remember, trust in yourself, work hard, and do your best. We will have a wonderful and memorable school year!

End of Year Letter From Mrs. Waters

Dear Students and Parents (or guardians),

Thank you to my students for working hard with me to continuously strengthen your knowledge and skills all the way from September 2017 until May 2018. Thank you to so many parents for your kind and generous support throughout the school year. I am deeply grateful for all of you giving time to help make our activities safe, fun and awesome!

The last week of the school year is next week. Please note the following end of year schedule – you are welcome to attend any of the functions:

·        Monday May 28th – Memorial Day,  No School
·        Tuesday May 29th –  3^rd Grade Award ceremony  1:15 -2: 15 pm
·        Wednesday May 30th – Superstar Showcase 2:00 – 3:00 pm
·        Thursday May 31^st – End of year celebration 11:30 am–2:30 pm Jaycee Park
·        Friday June 1^st – Last day of school, students may bring an educational board                                      game to school.

I enjoyed working with my students and had a wonderful year.  I wish you all a safe, educational (please make your child read anything interesting), and fun summer.

Fall Superstar Showcase

Friday Lunch

Dear students and parents,

Congratulations on our class achievement of TTM (Thinking Through Math)!  

We earned an average score of 85 as a class and earned more than 500,000 thinking points. To celebrate our students’ hard work, our class will be celebrating with a Papajohns pizza lunch this Friday April 21st.  You are welcome to send healthy snacks and drinks. Our lunch time is 12:40 – 1:10pm.

Note to My Students and Their Families

Dear students and families,

I want to thank all of you for your dedication and effort in the fall semester. We could not have made it this far without your hard work and hearty support. Whether it's the Fall Festival or the Fun Run Booster-thon, each of you demonstrated your love for our school and your spirit of excellence.

You continued to show your big heart and love of learning throughout the semester. Our Superstar Showcase (GT Project) was one more example that convinced me how great you guys are. Many of you worked well with your partners to exhibit a high quality project. Every visitor could tell how much effort and time you put in.  Please continue your journey of curiosity and work hard.

As a Magic Garden gardener, I'm happy to see the growth of my students every day. I wish you a warm, safe, and interesting winter break. I'll see you on January 4th.
