Dear families,

I hope you enjoyed the Spring Fling and had a great weekend.  Spring is finally here. We have prepared seedlings to plant in our school garden. This week we will be focus on financial literacy.

1. Students can determine the value of a collection of coins and bills.
2. Understand the connection between labor(human capital) and income.
3. Understand what credit is and the borrower's responsibility to pay it back to the lender.
4. Understand the benefits of saving.
5. Students can make decisions involving money matters, including identifying costs and benefits of planned and unplanned spending.
6. Understanding the relationship between availability and scarcity of resources and cost.
7. Compare the ways living organisms depend on each other and on their environments such as through food chains.
8. Understand animal decomposition and the organisms that feed on decomposing animals.
9. Students can create food chains to show and describe such as the flow of energy in an aquatic ecosystem.
10. Spiral Up Perimeter and Area.
11. Students will use Kamico Assessment and create their own data tracking bar chart.

Week 28

Dear families,

This Monday is Chaves Day. I hope you had a great long weekend. This week we will wrap up the Unit of Multistep Word Problem Solving by Thursday.  We will continue to focus on the following:

1. Use strategies and algorithms, including the standard algorithm to multiply a two-digit number by a one-digit number.
2. Solve one-step and two step problems involving multiplication and division within 100 using strategies based on object pictorial models, including arrays, area models, and equal groups.
3. Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or division equation relating three whole numbers when the unknown is either a missing factor or product.
4. Represent real-world relationships using number pairs in a table and verbal descriptions.
5. Create and describe the flow of energy in a food chain.
6. Investigate food chains and explain the interdependency of plants and animals by making food chains. 
7. Predict how changes in a food chain could affect a pond ecosystem, a field ecosystem, and a desert ecosystem, ect.

Dear families,

I hope you had a relaxed, joyful and interesting Spring Break with your loved ones.  I had a wonderful time visiting Stonehenge, the Natural Science Museum and London Bridge in the United Kingdom. I'd be happy to share my experience with you. This week we will focus on the following:

Dear families,

We have one week to go before Spring Break. This week we will continue learning about 2D and 3D figures. In science we are learning about the life cycles of plants and animals. We will focus on the following:

1. Use attributes to recognize rhombuses, parallelograms, trapezoids, rectangles, and squares
2. Compare and contrast quadrilaterals by using Venn diagrams 
3. Decompose two congruent two dimensional figures into parts with equal areas
4. Hands on activities: create your own 3D figures
5. Daily Drill: build numerical fluency, automaticity
6. Spiral Up  multiplication and division problem solving
7. Take CFA # 10
8. Explore life cycles of plants
9. Explore the life cycles of different animals
10. Rodeo Day: March11th,  please wear comfortable clothing - Western or anything nice.

Dear families,

We have two weeks to go before Spring Break. This week we will start a new unit in math on 2D and 3D figures. In science we are learning about the solar system. We will focus on the following:

1. Essential Vocabulary: solids, cone, cylinders, spheres, triangular and rectangular prisms, cubes, attributes, quadrilateral, rhombuses, parallelograms, trapezoids, rectangles, squares
2. Sort Polygons - regular vs irregular polygons
3. Define two dimensional figures and three dimensional figures
4. Hands on activities: create your own 2D and 3D figures
5. Classifying and sorting 2D and 3D figures by attributes
6. Daily Drill: build numerical fluency, automaticity
7. Spiral Up  multi-step problem-solving skills
8. Identify the relative size and positions of the Earth, Moon, and Sun in the Solar System
9. Identify the orbits of the Earth and Moon in relation to the Sun
10. Construct a model of the Sun, Earth, Moon relationship and identify the limitations of a model

Week 24

Dear families,

I hope you all enjoyed the three day weekend. Monday is the President's day holiday. Only the teachers will be at school. Maybe you can read a story or enjoy the outside with a little bit warmer weather.

This week we will focus on the following:

1. Be able to explain the similarities between finding the perimeter of a rectangle and finding the area of a rectangle by creating a graphic organizer to compare and contrast
2. Find missing sides when given the perimeter of an irregular polygon 
3. Solving multistep word problems involving perimeter or area of a rectangle
4. Decompose figures into non-overlapping rectangles to find the area
5. Review finding the composite area by combining the areas of two non-overlapping rectangles
6. Identify the opportunities in the real world when one would need to determine the perimeter or area: building a fence around a garden, laying grass on an area, laying tile on a floor, etc.
7. Take CFA #9 on Thursday
8. Explore the Solar System: the Sun

Dear families,

Thank you for coming to our school Fund Raising night. I'm so grateful for your kind and generous support. We are a greater school because of you. 

Tomorrow is Valentines Day.  I wish you all have a special loving time with your families.

This week we will focus on the following:

1. Spiral up using partitioning to solve fraction problems
2. Spiral up finding perimeter of a polygon and missing lengths
3. Identify congruent figures by recognizing the same size and the same shape figures
